Jill Stephens is the Top Female Scholar-Athlete of the Spring Quarter.


CINCINNATI, Ohio--University of Cincinnati cross country runner Randy King (North Bend, Ohio/St. Xavier) and women's basketball player Jill Stephens (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) have been named the athletics department's top scholar-athletes of the spring quarter after both athletes earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

A total of 17 student-athletes, representing each of UC's sports, were named scholar-athletes of the quarter and the contingent will have their photos added to the Academic Wall of Fame in Fifth Third Arena.

In addition to King and Stephens, football player Bill Poland (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), women's soccer players Jennifer Leiter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) and Kim Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), swimming standout Marcel Kleiner (Heilbronn, Germany/Hohen Staufen Gymnasium), women's swimmers Gerdien de Jong (Bussum, Netherlands/Goois Lyceum), Kristen Funk (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) and Lindsey Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming), tennis player Hannah Hinton (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz), track and field participants Chad Beamer (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue), Karen Berling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and Rick King (North Bend, Ohio/St. Xavier) and volleyball player Natalie Dossman (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) all earned 4.0 GPA's during the spring.

A total of 214 student-athletes from UC's 17 sports were named to either the Bearcat or the Topcat Honor Roll. To qualify for the Bearcat Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have earned a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.49 for the quarter, while Topcat honorees must maintain between a 3.5 and a 4.0 GPA.
