CINCINNATI, Ohio--Each year, the University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics recognizes its top student-athletes with induction into the Legion of Excellence. This year's class of 16 will be recognized at the Legion of Excellence gala on Oct. 26 at the Kingsgate Marriott on UC's campus.
The selection is based on the highest cumulative grade point average on the respective team for that school year and good academic standing within the individual's athletics team and college. For the first time since the inception of the Legion in 2001, two student-athletes from the same team will be inducted as twin brothers Randy and Rick King from track and field will be honored.
In addition to the academic honors, former football player Tom O'Malley, All-American diver Angie Trostel and past men's basketball coach John Wiethe will be formally inducted into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame.
Induction into the Order of the Black Blazer, recognizing individuals for their contributions and support of UC Athletics, will be bestowed upon Elliott Hilsinger and Dr. Candace Kendle. Presentation of the Strubbe Distinguished Service Award will go to Mike Macke.
