BOCA RATON, Fla.---Cincinnati jumped to a 7-0 lead, but couldn't hold on as Florida Atlantic roared back for a 15-9 win and a series sweep of the Bearcats on Sunday afternoon at FAU Stadium. Josh Harrison and Cameron Satterwhite were the offensive heroes for the Bearcats, combining for five hits, including the former's third home run of the weekend.
The Bearcats exploded for seven runs in the top of the second, putting together five hits and taking advantage of a two-out FAU error. Kyle Rapp delivered the big hit of the inning with a two-run single, while Satterwhite, Tony Campana and Jamel Scott also scored RBI in the inning.
Florida Atlantic took a large chunk out of its deficit in the second, scoring five times to chase UC starter Rapp. A two-run double by Nick Arata and a two-run homer by William Block highlighted the Owl outburst. One inning later, FAU tied the score as RBI singles by Arata and Block knotted the game at seven.
The Owls, which scored 12 unanswered runs in innings two through five, used the long ball to gain a 12-7 lead. FAU greeted freshman Brian Garman (0-1) rather rudely, getting a two-run homer by Billy Degnan and a solo shot by Daniel Cook in the fourth and another two-run blast, this one by Travis Ozga one inning later.
Harrison cut into the six-run Florida Atlantic lead with a lead-off solo homer in the sixth, while a Campana double in the seventh drew UC within 13-9.
FAU scored the final two markers of the day in the last of the seventh on a double by Block and a Robb Thompson balk.
Satterwhite put together his first three-hit day as a Bearcat to lead the visitors, while Harrison, Rapp and Neall French all added two hits each.
Block had a huge day for the Owls, going 4-for-4 with four RBI and missing the cycle by just a triple. Arata added three hits and three RBI for FAU.
Mike Obradovich (2-0) picked up the win despite yielding seven runs and 10 hits in five innings of work.
Cincinnati will search for its first wins of the 2007 season, traveling to Clarksville, Tenn. for three games next weekend. UC plays Austin Peay twice during the three days, while also meeting Central Arkansas.
