CLEARWATER, Fla. - The University of Cincinnati baseball team, which scored 37 runs in three games vs. West Virginia last weekend to close out BIG EAST regular season play, stayed hot as they opened BIG EAST Conference Tournament with an 11-5 win over the same Mountaineers at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.
Cincinnati exploded for seven of their 11 runs in the first two innings as senior catcher Ryan Baker (Portland, Maine/Daytona Beach CC) clubbed a two-run single in the first, and junior third baseman Mike Spina (Newberry, Fla./Florida CC) pitched in three runs with a second-inning triple. Junior outfielder Cameron Satterwhite (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) plated two more in the fourth with his 14th home run of the year. Sophomore left fielder Jamel Scott (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) and Satterwhite led the Bearcats with a pair of hits each.
Junior left-hander Dan Osterbrock (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) picked up his ninth win this season for UC, giving up five runs and striking out seven in 8.2 innings of work. Freshman closer Jake Geglein (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) pitched the final out.
