CINCINNATI- The University of Cincinnati women's indoor track and field team open its 2009-10 season on Friday Dec.11, when it travels to Kent, Ohio, to compete in the Golden Flash Gala. The meet will be held Dec. 11-12 at the Kent State University Field House.
Top returner, senior Jasmine Cotton, looks to pick up where she left off last indoor season, when she competes in the pentathlon, which is scheduled to begin Friday at 2:15 p.m. The senior ended her indoor track and field a season a year ago by placing 14th in the pentathlon at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Top returning sprinter Natasha Burse highlights the second day of action (Dec. 12). The junior, who a season ago set the school record in the 60 meter dash (7.54), looks to shatter that record when she competes in the 60 meter sprint, which begins at 1:10 p.m.
Senior Ashley Arnold, who owns two school records (400 and 600 meters) will participate in the 500 meter run, which begins on Saturday at 3:25 p.m.
Eight freshmen will be making their Bearcat's debut in the two-day event. Those freshmen include: Shiniqua Armstrong, Kaitlyn Blanck, Jessica Cobb, Alyssa Edley, Kate Heinrichs, Bridget McNeill, Shanay Portis, and Anastasia Tarpeh.
Action begins on Friday, Dec. 11 at 1:00 p.m. with the day's first field event, the weight throw.
