Feb. 17, 2010
As the University of Cincinnati baseball team kicks off a new decade of action on Friday, Feb. 19, at Florida Atlantic University, the Bearcats wanted to take a look back at the 2000's by selecting a UC Baseball All-Decade Team.
The UC All-Decade team will consist of a 16-man roster and is made up of players who played at least two seasons at Cincinnati from 2000-09. The list was chosen by current and former members of the UC Sports Communications Department using stats and honors from the 2000 season through the 2009 campaign.
STARTING PITCHER - DAN OSTEBROCK (2006-08)
Dan Osterbrock is one of the most polished pitchers to toe the rubber at Cincinnati. The 21 wins he accumulated in his three seasons as a Bearcat are the most all-time in Cincinnati history. Osterbrock was a two-time All BIG EAST honoree, taking home first-team honors in 2007 and second-team honors in 2008. The accolades didn't stop there for Osterbrock. He was twice named to the American Baseball Coaches Association's (ABCA) first-team in both 2007 and 2008. The 2007 season for Osterbrock proved to be one of the greatest individual performances in a season by a pitcher in UC history. The southpaw went 9-1 and posted a 2.67 earned run average. He walked 25 and struck out 82 batters in 94 innings pitched. In 2008 Osterbrock went 9-2, posting a 3.55 E.R.A in 99 innings pitched. He issued only 10 bases on balls, while struck out 74 batters. The all-time winningest pitcher in Cincinnati history, Osterbrock also ranks third in innings pitched (255), tied for sixth in starts (36), and sixth in strikeouts (194).
