OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore T.J. Jones and junior Justin Riddell combined for five of Cincinnati's eight hits, but three UC errors coupled with nine hits from Miami University helped Miami (OH) defeat the University of Cincinnati baseball team, 8-1, Wednesday evening at Marge Schott Stadium.
The seven-run win by MU gave the RedHawks the series win over UC this season and upped Miami's record to 25-23, while Cincinnati fell back to .500 at 25-25.
Just as it did last night, Miami used hits from Adam Eaton and Jon Edgington to quickly plate a run in its half of the first inning. Later in the first inning, Edgington scored on a failed pickoff attempt moving the RedHawks lead to 2-0.
Two Cincinnati errors in the fourth inning led to four, two-out runs for Miami, helping the RedHawks increase their lead to 6-0.
While the Bearcats couldn't string anything together at the plate, The RedHawks lead continued to grow as a two-run double by Edgington in the sixth inning opened the lead to 8-0.
Riddell got the Bearcats on the board in the eighth when his RBI infield single with two outs scored Jones, who earlier doubled, moving the score to 8-1, but that would be it for UC as it fell by that score.
Jones posted three hits to lead UC marking his 12th multi-hit game and his second three-hit game of the season. Riddell collected two hits, his 10th multi-hit game in his last 15 games.
Sophomore Cory Hough was the other player to post a multi-hit game with two hits.
UC returns home on Friday, May 14, when it welcomes No. 22 Pittsburgh to Marge Schott Stadium for the opener of a three-game set at 6:30 p.m. Friday's game will also be Cancer Awareness Night and donations towards the Barrett Cancer Center will be accepted on the concourse.
