Here's a look at what's going on this week in UC sports:

  • The men's basketball team will take on Carleton University in the first of two exhibition games at 7 p.m. Monday at Fifth Third Arena to start off the 2010-11 season. The first regular season game will be on November 15.
  • The women's basketball team will kick off the 2010-11 season with an exhibition game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fifth Third Arena against Northern Kentucky. Regular season play will begin November 12.
  • The football team is idle this week and will begin preparing for a November 13 contest at West Virginia. The Bearcats are 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST.
  • The women's golf team will wrap up the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on Monday in Fort Myers, Fla.
  • The men's soccer team will host a BIG EAST Championship quarterfinal contest on Sunday against the winner of DePaul/Connecticut. The Bearcats, the number two seed out of the league's Red Division, capped the regular season 7-4-6 overall and 5-1-3 in conference play. Match time will be announced later this week.
  • The swimming and diving team will host a pair of BIG EAST conference meets this week. Cincinnati will host Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. Friday at the Keating Aquatics Center followed by a meet against West Virginia at 1 p.m. Saturday.
  • The No. 21 women's volleyball team will match up against West Virginia at 2 p.m. Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va. The Bearcats will then play Pittsburgh at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Pittsburgh, Pa. UC is 22-4 and tied for first place in the BIG EAST at 9-1.

In case you missed it:

  • The cross country team competed in the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships last Saturday in Syracuse, N.Y. The men's team finished seventh, the program's highest finish since joining the league. Eric Finan earned All-BIG EAST honors with a seventh place finish. The women's team placed ninth, led by Lilian Jelimo's 36th finish.
  • The football team fell to Syracuse, 31-7, last Saturday in UC's Homecoming game. This is the Bearcats' second straight BIG EAST and home loss this season.
  • The women's golf team finished tied for eighth at the Memphis Women's Invitational last Tuesday at Ridgeway Country Club. The Bearcats shot 317-318=635 as a team, tied with Butler (320-315=635) for eighth. Sophomore Alex Carl took third place honors for UC, with rounds of 72-78=150.
  • The men's soccer team ended a BIG EAST Conference match against DePaul in a 1-1 draw in double overtime last Wednesday at DePaul's Wish Field. UC then finished the 2010 regular season with a win against Syracuse 4-0, on Senior Night last Saturday at Gettler Stadium. UC honored six seniors prior to the match, and all six contributed as the Bearcats secured the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Red Division for the upcoming BIG EAST Championship.
  • The volleyball team defeated IUPUI, 3-0 last Tuesday in Indianapolis, Ind. The Bearcats went on to sweep Villanova last Sunday, 3-0 at Fifth Third Arena to remain tied atop the BIG EAST standings. Cincinnati has won their last five matches straight, four of them in 3-0 sweeps.
