CINCINNATI - The Red and Black teams are deadlocked in a 4-4 tie after playing seven innings Saturday afternoon in Game 2 of the University of Cincinnati baseball team's Red & Black World Series at Marge Schott Stadium.
The intrasquad scrimmage, which was scheduled for seven innings, will be completed Sunday at 1 p.m. The third and final game of the series is set to begin immediately following the conclusion of Game 2.
Junior left-hander Thomas Gentile (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) started for the Red team and allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings, while striking out four.
Freshman right-hander Evan Hills (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to keep the Black team in the game.
Trailing 4-3 in the eighth inning, Black team infielder Sam Vandenheuvel (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton/Mesa CC) hit a two-out RBI single to tie the score. The 6-foot-1 senior has two hits in three at-bats for the game.
Two redshirt freshmen are leading the offense for the Red team - outfielder Ethan McAlpine (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) and catcher Aaron Oesch (Portsmouth, Ohio/Minford) are both 2 for 4.
Senior T.J. Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) has a triple for the Black squad.
The Red team needs to win Game 2 in order to tie the series after the Black team won convincingly, 10-1, Friday evening.
Game 3's probable starters are two freshman righties - Grant Walker (Brookeville, Ohio/Northmont) of the Red team and the Black team's Bryan Chenoweth (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon).
