Atkinson's day ended with two outs in the top of the fifth after surrendering an RBI single to third baseman Zach Tanner that gave Wright State a 3-1 advantage.

Redshirt sophomore Christian McElroy (Middletown, Ohio/Monroe/Sinclair CC) relieved Atkinson and ended the fifth by striking out WSU shortstop Justin Kopale. McElroy gave the UC pitching staff a boost by throwing 4 1-3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

After retiring eight consecutive batters, Atkinson walked two of his next three to put Raiders on first and second with one out in the top of the fourth inning. Wright State No. 9 hitter, left fielder Kyle Mossbarger, put WSU ahead 2-1 with an RBI single through the right side of the infield, driving in designated hitter Garrett Gray, who reached on a one-out walk.
