UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI MEN'S BASKETBALL
2013-14 POSTGAME NOTES
Cincinnati (18-2, 7-0 American) 69, UCF (9-8, 1-5 American) 51
January 23, 2014 // Fifth Third Arena // Cincinnati, Ohio // Attendance: 10,242

Series Notes

  • Cincinnati won the only previous meeting between the institutions, a 62-48 decision in Orlando, Fla., during the Citrus Bowl Classic on Dec. 30, 1983.

Team Notes

  • Head coach Mick Cronin used the starting lineup of Ge'Lawn Guyn (G), Sean Kilpatrick (G), Shaquille Thomas (F), Titus Rubles (F) and Justin Jackson (F) for the 20th time in 20 games.
  • The victory continues the best start under Cronin and the best for UC since the 2001-02 squad started 26-2. That team finished 31-4 and won the Conference USA regular season title.
  • The 11-game win streak is UC's longest since starting last season 12-0.
  • The Bearcats have won their first seven games in league play for the first time since 2001-02 when they opened 8-0 in C-USA play.
  • Cincinnati has now won 16 straight games at Fifth Third Arena. It's the fourth-longest win streak at home since the facility opened for the 1989-90 campaign.
  • In holding the Knights to 51 points, the Bearcats have now held 27-straight opponents under 70 points. It marks the longest active streak in the country.
  • The Bearcats used a 9-0 run in midway through the first half to build an 18-13 lead (12:16-9:07). During the stretch, the Bearcats forced UCF to miss six straight field goals and turn it over four times. The run took over four minutes and was the 27th run of at least 8-0 for UC on the season, while the Bearcats have allowed just 10 such runs by opponents.
  • UC had a second lengthy run during the second period, using a 9-0 run to build the lead from nine points (39-32) to 16 points (48-32).
  • UCF's largest lead of the game was four points. UC has not trailed by more than eight points in any contest at Fifth Third Arena this season.
  • It was the Bearcats first game of the season played on a Thursday. UC has played every day of the week except Sunday, which is the day of their next contest at Temple (Jan. 26).

Individual Notes

  • With 19 points, Sean Kilpatrick became the fifth player in Cincinnati history to eclipse 1,800 career points and how has 1,816 in his four years in Clifton. He trails only Oscar Robertson (2,973), Steve Logan (1,985), Deonta Vaughn (1,885) and Danny Forston (1,881) on the all-time scoring list.
  • Kilpatrick's three connections from beyond the arc give him 269 three-pointers in his career. The senior ranks third all time at UC, trailing only Vaughn (313) and Darnell Burton (306).
  • Kilpatrick played in his 126th consecutive game at Cincinnati. He is just three games away from joining the program's top eight in games played and also three away from tying Jason Maxiell for second in consecutive games played. If Kilpatrick's streak continues, he will set the UC record for consecutive games played on Feb. 15 versus Houston.
  • Justin Jackson registered seven blocks tonight, matching his career high and giving him 190 for his career. He will likely finish his career fourth on the UC all-time list behind Kenyon Martin (292), Erick Hicks (256) and Maxiell (252).
  • With seven rebounds, Titus Rubles has now pulled down at least seven boards in seven of UC's last nine contests.
  • Shaquille Thomas dished out five assists, leading UC in that category for the second time this season.
  • Jermaine Sanders scored 10 points, giving him double figures for the sixth time this year and seventh in his career.
