HOUSTON – The University of Cincinnati men's track and field team closed out the H-Town SpeedCity Series with five event wins and 14 podium finishes on Saturday inside Yeoman Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.
Combined with the women's results from Friday and the Bearcats totaled nine victories and 25 podiums over the two-day meet.
Chris Borzor (200m), Matt Hoak (mile run), Jeremy Hayton (high jump), Austin Edwards (long jump) and Sam Meece (weight throw) snagged the top spot in their respective events.
This was the first of two trips to Houston this indoor season for UC as the Bearcats will return to Yeoman Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 13 for the next round of the H-Town SpeedCity Series.
WINNER WINNER
• Borzor crossed the line in 21.00 in the 200-meter dash, narrowly besting Houston's Shaun Maswanganyi who was in the same heat and clocked 21.10. Borzor also netted a personal best in the 60m dash prelims, running 6.81 to qualify fourth for the finals, also the No. 5 time in school history. He did not run the 60m finals.
• Hoak took the top spot in the mile run with a time of 4:16.32 and was also second in the 800m with a clocking of 1:59.25.
• Hayton and Albert Kalala were 1-2 in the high jump with the same mark of 1.90m. Hayton earned the win as he cleared the first bar at 1.90m on his first attempt and Kalala needed two tries to get over the height.
• Austin Edwards leapt past the field in the high jump, leaving a mark of 7.33m to earn the win.
• Sam Meece had a heave of 20.00m to win the 35-pound weight throw. He also was second in the shot put with a best throw of 16.15m.
PODIUM FINISHES
• Isaiah McCall ran 8.21 in the 60m hurdles to place third.
• Tyrese Vanhorne clocked 49.20 in the 400m dash to finish second.
• The 4x400m relay quartet of Vanhorne, McCall, Borzor and LaCarr Trent combined for a 3:18.26 effort to take third place.
• Carlos Kouassi took third in the triple jump with a personal-best effort of 15.54m, the third-best leap in school history indoors.
• Austin Goolsby cleared a 5.00m bar in the pole vault, placing third.
• Danny Jones netted a PR and the No. 6 mark in UC's record book in the shot put, finishing third with a mark of 18.24m.
UP NEXT
The Bearcats are back in action next weekend, traveling north to Stile Fieldhouse to compete in the Akron Invitational on Feb. 5-6, 2021 in Akron, Ohio.
The cross-country squad will be in competition in Wichita, Kansas at the American Athletic Conference Championship on. Saturday, Feb. 6.
