Bearcats Track and Field Close Out Day One at the Kentucky Open

LEXINGTON, KY. – The University of Cincinnati track and field program claimed gold in two events to close out the first day of competition at the Kentucky Open in Lexington, Kentucky, Friday evening.

LEXINGTON, KY. – The University of Cincinnati track and field program claimed gold in two events to close out the first day of competition at the Kentucky Open in Lexington, Kentucky, Friday evening.

NEW SCHOOL RECORD 
Katrina Patterson shattered a school record in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:43.16. The previous record was held by Mary Loebker in 1989.
 
NUMBER ONE
On the women's side, Caisja Chandler finished at the top of the 200 meter run with a time of 22.97, tying her second-best time at UC from 2019. Chandler also took the top spot in the 100m prelims with a time of 11.37 and qualifiying for the finals on Saturday at 1:50pm ET.

On the men's side, Nick DeHaven took the top spot in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:28.27, his second best time and first outdoor win of the 2021 season.
 
UP NEXT 
The Bearcats welcome a full day of running events slated to start at Noon ET with the women's 4x100m relay. The running events will take place through the afternoon, closing out the meet with the men's 4x400m relay at 4:00 p.m. ET. Saturday will house just seven field events, starting with the women's shotput at 12:30 p.m. ET and finishing up at 2:00 p.m. with the women's discus throw.
