GREENVILLE, N.C. – University of Cincinnati women's basketball fell to ECU on the road 71-48 Sunday afternoon.
Freshman guard Braylyn Milton led the team with nine points, Sophomorre guard Jillian Hayes led the way with 10 rebounds and the team recorded a total of 10 blocks in the game.
Cincinnati moves to 7-9 on the season, 0-4 in conference play while ECU improves to 8-9 on the season, 1-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pirates would make the first two baskets of the quarter before a pull-up jumper by sophomore guard Jillian Hayes sparked a 6-0 run for the Bearcats for their only ead of the game, 6-5. Back to back steals by ECU led to an 8-0 run and the Pirates retaking the lead, 13-6. Graduate forward Arame Niang broke the ECU run with a layup and ECU would finish the first quarter 16-11.
The second quarter was slow to start offensively for both teams. ECU would go on a 9-1 run before a block by Hayes led to a Niang layup at the 4:13 mark to end the Bearcats' drought. Milton would go on to make a pull-up jumper and sophomore foward Malea Williams a three point shot, however ECU would take the lead into the half, 31-19.
Freshman center Clarissa Craig started the third quarter with a foul and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. ECU would make a quick nine points off two three point shots and a steal that led to an and-one for the largest lead, 41-23. Junior guard Jada Scott would break the Pirates scoring run with a driving second chance layup. Craig would go on to be fouled three more times, going 8-for-10 overall from the free throw line. Hayes beat the buzzer to end the third quarter with a layup, ECU up 51-35.
ECU would go on a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Junior forward Jadyn Scott would score her first basket of the game, Freshman wing Emerita Mashaire would make two three point baskets, and Jada Scott a driving layup, however the Pirates would run away with the game with a final score of 71-48.

Cincinnati is on back on the road for a Wednesday night matchup at Houston.The game will air on ESPN+ and tips at 8 p.m. ET.
