LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Led by senior Ellie Leather's school-record-setting victory in the mile and junior Chris Borzor's win in the 200m dash, the University of Cincinnati track and field teams produced great results against stiff competition at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Saturday.
The women's team finished the meet with four podium finishes, while the men had six Bearcats finishing in the top three.
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women's Mile Run:
Leather broke her second school record this season with a time of 4:36.83 in the mile run. This school record also serves as her new personal best, the meet record and facility record at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational and ranks her No. 9 in the nation in the mile run.
Men's 200m Dash:
Borzor raced to first place in 21.27 seconds to win the 200m dash at the meet. He was followed by freshman Steven McElroy, who placed second in the event with a time of 21.34. Borzor is the current school record holder in the event wih McElroy's time putting him third all-time at UC.
Men's 3000m Run:
The Bearcats made up three of the top four spots in the 3000m run, led by Tyler Wirth in first place with a time of 8:09.45. Jonathan Harley raced closely behind Wirth and finished in second in 8:11.66. Milo Greder took fourth in his first race as a Bearcat with a time of 8:16.16.
Men's Pole Vault:
Austin Goolsby took second place in the pole vault at the PNC Lenny Lyles invitational with a new personal record of 5.26m (17-03.00). This vault ranks him in the top 40 in the nation as of this weekend.
NEXT UP
The Bearcats will travel the majority of the team to College Station, Texas to compete in the Charlie Thomas Invitational from Feb. 4-5. Leather will travel to the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Feb. 5 to compete in the women's mile run.
