WBB Welcomes Memphis on Senior Night

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team will celebrate senior night when they welcome the Memphis Tigers to Fifth Third Arena Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a 7 p.m. matchup.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team will celebrate senior night when they welcome the Memphis Tigers to Fifth Third Arena Wednesday, Feb. 23 for a 7 p.m. matchup. 

THE SERIES
Memphis and Cincinnati have one of the longest rivalries in Bearcats women's basketball history. Memphis leads the overall series 37-24 while also leading at Cincinnati 13-11. 
 
Last time out, the Tigers were victorious 66-54 in Memphis on Feb. 2. Sophomore forward Malea Williams led the Bearcats with 12 points, going 5-for-10 from the field and shooting 50 percent. Junior guard Caitlyn Wilson added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists while freshman guard Braylyn Milton finished with five rebounds. The Bearcats held the Tigers to 34 percent shooting.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS 
The Bearcats lost their fifth straight game to ECU Saturday afternoon 68-57, moving to 10-15 overall and 3-10 in AAC play. Sophomore guard Jillian Hayes led four Bearcats in double-digit scoring with 13 points and added six assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Junior point guard Akira Levy led the team with nine assists and junior forward Jadyn Scott and graduate forward Arame Niang each added 11 points.

Hayes leads the team in points (303), points per game (12.1), field goals made a game (4.0), free throws made (97), rebounds (173) and blocks (35). Junior forward Caitlyn Wilson leads the team in three-point shots (54) and three-point shots a game (2.2). while Levy leads in assists (131) and is tied in steals with Hayes with 55

The Bearcats continue to stay in the top of the AAC in blocked shots and 20th in the NCAA with 125 on the season while Caitlyn Wilson is No. 1 in the American in three-point shots made.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Katrina Merriweather is in her first season guiding the Tigers, with a 14-10 overall record and 5-8 record in her first year of the AAC. 
 
Last time out, Memphis took the lead in the first half and held it for most of the third quarter, however the Tigers ultimately fell to Wichita State by a final score of 68-61 on senior day. Emani Jefferson led the team with 15 points while Madison Griggs and Jamirah Shutes added in 13 and 12 points, respectively. Tyler Frierson was a force on the boards, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds today while adding in three blocks and eight points
 
For the season, Shutes has been the Tiger's go-to on the offensive end with 11.6 points per game while Jefferson and Davis are not far behind her with 9.7 and 8.2 points per contest. Tyler Frierson and Lanetta Williams have been hard at work on the boards with 5.9 and 5.2 rebounds per game, respectively, while Jefferson, Shutes and Maya Stovall have dished out more than 60% of the team's assists this season.
  PROMOTIONS 
Three seniors will be honored during a post-game celebration: graduate student Arame Niang, senior center Nesma Khalifa and student assistant coach Zenzele Apesemaka-Vital.

The team will also wear green ribbons during the game to celebrate the American Athletic Conference's Pow6rful Minds Week, bringing awareness to mental health and wellness for student-athletes.
