Both the men's and women's track and field teams finished in second place after day two at the AAC Championship Meet, recording the best combined finish in Cincinnati history.

Birmingham, Ala. – Both the men's and women's track and field teams finished in second place after day two at the AAC Championship Meet, recording the best combined finish in Cincinnati history. The men's team scored the highest point total in UC history as well. 
 
Head coach Susan Seaton said of the results: "I am really proud of the team and how we battled today, as well as all the progress we are making and we can't wait to see what will happen in outdoor season."
 
Four more conference championships came home with the Bearcats today with Ellie Leather in the mile run (4:41.17) and 800m dash (2:08.01), freshman Steven McElroy in the 400m dash (46.99), and Annika Kinley and Alyssa Matheny in a tie for first in the high jump (1.76m). They will join Austin Edwards (long jump) and the women's distance medley relay made up of Leather, Carmen Licht, Faith Banks and Sam Mikula as this year's conference champions.
 
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women's Mile Run:
Leather set a new meet record with her 4:41.17 finish, winning the event by over three seconds. Senior Lauren Kemper set a personal record by over six seconds to place sixth in 4:52.98, making her fourth all-time in Cincinnati history. 
 
Women's High Jump
The Bearcats had co-champions at the top of the podium with freshman Kinley and senior Matheny at this year's conference championship. The two jumpers tied for first with a jump of 1.76m (5-09.25).
 
Women's 800m Run:
Leather led the pack to another conference championship in the 800m dash with her time of 2:08.01. Teammate Carmen Licht also scored points for the Bearcats with her eighth place finish in 2:14.33.
 
Men's 400m Dash:
McElroy won the conference championship in his first ever conference meet with UC, running a lifetime best of 46.99, which now ranks him second all-time at Cincinnati. Junior Chris Borzor finished sixth in the event in 47.75.
 
Women's 400m Dash:
Junior Faith Banks ran a lifetime best of 53.63 to take second in the championship meet, also taking over the second-place spot on the UC top ten all-time list.
 
Women's Shot Put
Jane Sensibaugh threw her way into the second-place position on the podium with a throw of 15.66m (51-04.50). All three women entered in the event scored points with Alexanadria Hunter and Hannah Jackson placing sixth and eighth, respectively. 
 
Women's Triple Jump
Senior Kennedy Marable brought home a medal in her last conference meet with her season best jump of 13.08m (42-11.00). 
 
Men's Shot Put
Sam Meece took home his second silver medal of the weekend in the shot put with his throw of 16.51m (54-02.00). Korbin Spencer scored more points for the Bearcats with his fifth-place finish and throw of 16.14m (52-11.50).
 
Men's 200m Dash
Borzor took second in the event with a photo finish, winning his heat of the finals in 21.05, just .01 seconds ahead of third place. McElroy finished fifth with a 21.37.
 
Men's Triple Jump
Carlos Kouassi finished second in the event with a jump of 15.46m (50-08.75). This was just his second indoor meet with the team this season.
 
Men's Heptathlon
Senior Cannon Riddle finished out the remaining three events in the pentathlon to move up to third place with a score of 5266. His third-place finishes in the pole vault and 1000m run gave him the points he needed to secure the podium spot. Freshman Dominique Hall set a new UC freshman record in the heptathlon with a score of 5152. 
 
Men's Mile
Sophomore Tyler With, who currently holds the UC record in the mile, ran a close race to finish third with his time of 4:05.41. 
 
NEXT UP
Leather's current national ranking qualifies her to run at the NCAA Championship meet on March 11-12. The official list of qualifiers will be announced on Tuesday. The rest of the team will kick off outdoor season on March 17th at the Houston Spring Break Invite.
