TicketsCINCINNATI – The Cincinnati women's tennis team returned home and picked up its sixth consecutive win with a 5-2 victory over Murray State on Sunday at the Western Athletic Club.
The Bearcats improved to 7-3, while the Racers dropped to 4-5.
A day after edging Indiana for a 4-3 win on the road, Cincinnati came out fast against Murray State.
Cincinnati won the doubles point before quickly taking straight-set singles victories on Courts 4, 5 and 6 to clinch the win.
"We knew today was going to be a really tough match," head coach Eric Toth said. "(The Indiana) match took a lot out of us yesterday but the girls responded well."
Redshirt sophomore Kelli Niehaus and freshman Callie Flanagan won 6-2 in double before both capturing straight-set wins. Niehaus won 6-4, 6-1 on Court 5 to improve to 8-0 on the season in singles during dual matches.
Flanagan won 6-3, 6-3 on Court 6.
Redshirt sophomore Cassie McLay also picked up two wins. She combined with freshman Elizabeth Pendergast to secure the doubles point with a 7-5 come-from-behind victory on Court 1 before capturing UC's fifth win of the night with a 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory on Court 2.
Redshirt senior Emma Miceli also picked up a singles win, taking a 6-0, 6-2 decision on Court 4.
Additionally, Toth grabbed is 80th career victory to move into sole possession of second-place in Cincinnati history.

Cincinnati will host a double header on Saturday March 12, starting at 1 p.m. at the Western Athletic Club against Bellarmine and Holy Cross (Ind).
