Troeger is First Bearcat on the Podium at the AAC Outdoor Championships

Competition at the 2022 AAC Outdoor Championships started today with the finals in the hammer and javelin throws and the 10,000-meter run. Freshman Leonie Troeger was the first Bearcat to land on the podium in the javelin throw.

Wichita, Kan. – Competition at the 2022 AAC Outdoor Championships started today with the finals in the hammer and javelin throws and the 10,000-meter run. Freshman Leonie Troeger was the first Bearcat to land on the podium in the javelin throw.

PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women's Javelin Throw:

Troeger took the second-place spot in the women's javelin throw with a season best of 53.11m (174' 3"). She returned to competition just last week after an injury that took her out for the beginning of the season and was able to score the first podium spot for the Bearcats at the AAC Outdoor Championship meet. 
 
Men's Decathlon:
Reigning AAC Champion Cannon Riddle leads the men's decathlon with 3824 points after the first five events. Riddle won the long jump with a jump of 6.97m (22' 10.50") and the 400m dash in 50.44. He took second in the 100m dash with a 10.88. Riddle and senior Damien Berthenet also tied for first in the high jump with a clearance of 1.92m (6' 3.50"). Berthenet sits in third with 3618 points. Freshman Domonique Hall sits in eighth with 2520 points. The decathlon will finish up tomorrow starting at 11:30 a.m. EST with the remaining five events. 
 
Women's Heptathlon:
Katie Straus leads the Bearcats in the heptathlon with 3180 points, putting her in fifth after four events. Her top place was in the 100-meter hurdles where she ran 14.18 to take third. She also took fourth in the high jump with her clearance of 1.67m (5' 5.75") and fourth in shot put with a throw of 11.40m (37' 5"). Juliet McGregor follows in eighth place with a score of 2927 and Sydney Spears sits in 11th with 2835 points.
 
Track Event Qualifiers
The Bearcats will be sending two athletes to Sunday's finals in both the men's and women's 200-meter dashes and the women's 1500-meter run. Caisja Chandler ran the fastest time of the night in the women's 200-meter dash in 23.07, with Faith Banks qualifying in 23.61. In the men's 200-meter dash, Chris Borzor qualified with 21.32 and Steven McElroy qualified with 21.34. Seniors Ellie Leather (4:33.37) and Rylee Penn (4:39.12) will be running in the 1500-meter run final as well. 
 
NEXT UP
Day two of the AAC Outdoor Championships will be composed of finals in the long jump, shot put and 3,000-meter steeplechase, as well as the conclusion of the heptathlon and decathlon. The remaining running events will also run preliminary rounds tomorrow. The meet will start at 11:30 a.m. EST with the men's decathlon 110m hurdles and run until 8:45 p.m. with the conclusion of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
