Bearcats Finish AAC Outdoor Championships with Eight Individual Conference Champions

The Bearcats wrapped up competition at the AAC Outdoor Championships with the highest combined team finish in UC history. UC athletes brought home eight individual event conference championships throughout the entirety of the meet.

Wichita, Kan. – The Bearcats wrapped up competition at the AAC Outdoor Championships with the highest combined team finish in UC history. UC athletes brought home eight individual event conference championships throughout the entirety of the meet. 
 
TEAM STANDINGS
The women's team finished in third behind UCF and Houston with 105 points. The men's team finished in fourth place behind Wichita State, Houston, and Tulsa with 116 points. Full team standings are listed in the results at the bottom of the page. 

PERFORMANCES OF NOTE
Women's Discus Throw:
Jane Sensibaugh brought home the first conference title on day three at the AAC Championships in the discus throw. She increased the distance of her throws from the preliminary rounds to the finals, throwing 51.61m (169' 4") on her fourth attempt of the day, which held strong throughout the rest of the competition to take first. 
 
Women's Triple Jump:
After taking silver in the triple jump during the past two conference meets, Kennedy Marable was able to secure that first-place spot with her jump of 13.12m (43' 00.50"). She jumped into podium range with her second jump of the day and kept improving upon it throughout the duration of the competition. Anaya Dees also scored a point for the Bearcats with her eighth-place finish, jumping 12.38m (40' 7.50")
 
Women's 1500-meter Run:
Ellie Leather defended her previous conference championship in the 1500-meter run with a new AAC record of 4:15.19. She won the race by over five seconds, easily taking the lead with 400 meters to go and increasing the distance between herself and the rest of the pack during the last lap. 

Men's 400-meter Dash:
Freshman Steven McElroy dominated the competition in the 400-meter dash, setting a new Cincinnati and AAC record in 45.57. His time is currently ranked top 12 in the nation. McElroy was able to defend his indoor conference title with his second AAC 400-meter championship as a true freshman. 
 
Women's 100-meter Dash:
Caisja Chandler edged out the competition in the 100-meter dash by thousandths of a second to win the championship title in 11.33 seconds. This time currently ranks 45th in the nation and will send her to NCAA first-round competition in two weeks. 
 
Women's 800-meter Run:
Leather defended her title in the 800-meter run as well, easily staying ahead of the competition the entire race to finish with a 2:08.21. She won the race by over a second, a large margin for an 800-meter race. Leather has now scored 71.5 points for the Bearcats at conference championship meets in her running career at UC.
 
Women's 200-meter Dash:
Chandler scored her second gold medal of the day in the 200-meter dash, another event that she holds the Cincinnati school record in. Her time today of 22.88 was a seasonal best and just .09 seconds off the school record. 
 
Women's High Jump:
Senior Alyssa Matheny was able to score eight points for the Bearcats in windy conditions with her clearance of 1.74m (5' 8.50") in the high jump. This jump tied her season best and earned her the silver medal at the conference championship.
 
Men's 100-meter Dash:
Current Cincinnati record holder Chris Borzor broke his own previous record with a 10.15 to make his way into the bronze medal position on the podium. His time currently ranks 33rd in the nation. 
 
Men's 800-meter Dash:
Siro Piña Cardona ran an excellent race, making up places by sprinting the final 100 meters to take the bronze medal in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.40.
 
NEXT UP
Team members who are in the top 48 in the NCAA East will compete in two weeks at the NCAA East preliminary round. Stay tuned for the list of qualifiers to be announced later this week.
