CHARLESTON, W.Va.  – The University of Cincinnati concluded competition at the Thunder in the Mountains on Sunday.

"We faced a really high level of tennis this weekend," head coach Eric Toth said. "VCU, West Virginia and Marshall are all great programs, and we will be better prepared for the remainder of our fall season as a result of the level of competition in our matches over the last several days."

Following a hidden dual format, the Bearcats faced VCU and co-hosts West Virginia and Marshall in singles and doubles at the Kanawha Rec Center.

On Friday, Cincinnati opened play with doubles matches against West Virginia and Marshall. Sofia Bruno and Hayley Hirsch earned their second doubles win of the fall with a 6-3 victory over Marshall. The Bearcats wrapped up the first day of action by securing two singles victories against VCU.

The pairs of Cassie McLay and Elizabeth Pendergast and Natasha Opaciuch and Hirsch earned doubles victories against VCU to open play on Saturday. The Bearcats also turned in three singles wins against West Virginia to round out the second day of competition.

The Bearcats posted five singles victories, four of which came in straight sets, against Marshall to close out the event on Sunday. Hirsch, Bruno, Opaciuch and Maria Santilli secured their courts in two sets.

"I want to give a big thank you to Rusty Webb and the volunteer group for putting on a great event and taking care of our team. His efforts were greatly appreciated." Toth added.

Cincinnati will continue their fall season when the Bearcats host the UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational at Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Sept. 30 - Oct. 1.
