TicketsCINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's tennis fell 6-1 to Marshall inside Western Athletic Club on Sunday.
"Our team competed well again today, but unfortunately our quality just was not good enough," head coach Eric Toth said. "There was inconsistency in our play across the board and Marshall had quite a bit to do with that. I was very impressed by their team and they are very good across their lineup. We are going to need to come to work on the practice court and prepare well as we head into next weekend."
The pair of sophomore Callie Flanagan and redshirt junior Cassie McLay clinched three straight points to battle back down 5-2 and tie their match at 5-5 on court one, but Marshall claimed courts two and three to take the initial point.
Marshall took the first three singles courts at positions two, three and six to secure the match win. Sophomore Elizabeth Pendergast and redshirt junior Kelli Niehaus responded to dropped first sets to force third-set tiebreakers.
Niehaus took her court in the tiebreaker set 1-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Cincinnati remains home to host Cleveland State on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
