CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team travels to compete in the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. this week.
No. 11 seed Cincinnati is scheduled to face No. 6 seed Memphis at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The winner of the match will advance to take on No. 3 seed South Florida at noon on Thursday.
Cincinnati enters postseason action 8-13 overall, 0-4 in the AAC. The Bearcats won three of their last five matches to close out the regular season. The doubles tandem of redshirt junior Cassie McLay and sophomore Callie Flanagan have won three of their last four matches and posted seven victories at the top position, while redshirt junior Kelli Niehaus and freshman Katie Ferguson have each posted a team-best nine singles wins this dual match season.
Wednesday will be the Bearcats' 14th AAC Championship match under head coach Eric Toth. Cincinnati advanced to the quarterfinal round last season and earned its best finish with a semifinal appeareance in 2017.
Memphis heads into the postseason 8-12 overall, 4-1 in the AAC. The doubles pair of senior Aran Teixido Garcia and sophomore Emily Meyer have compiled a team-best 11 wins at the top position, while Meyer also leads the team with nine singles victories.
