CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving program swept Oakland on Friday inside Keating Aquatic Center.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving program swept Oakland on Friday inside Keating Aquatic Center.

The women's team dominated the Golden Grizzlies, 221-79, while the men earned a 161-137 victory.

Starting off for the Bearcats, senior Will Claus grabbed the win in the men's 1-meter dive with a score of 308.0. Freshman Ramez Diaa finished close behind with a score of 303.4. Junior Lauren Melia tallied two second place finishes in the 1-meter (264.7) and 3-meter dive (262.5).  

The women's 200-yard medley relay team of Ellie Schrank, Joleigh Crye, Kate Mardis and Jessica Davis took control the pool with a winning time of 1:40.33, the sixth-fastest in program history and a new pool record.

On the men's side, Luke VanDeusen, Nathan Spetz, Dean Sherrer and Owen Holland grabbed second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay recording a time of 3:05.47.

Leading the charge for the women was Crye and sophomore Julie Rose, both claiming two event wins. Crye finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (55.37) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.18), while Rose claimed the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.66) and 200-yard freestyle (1:52.64) titles.

Davis took the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.21. She also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.59).

Sophomore Kyle Bumgardner swept the breaststroke events and took home first place in the 400-yard individual medley. Gubeno found success in the 50-yard freestyle (20.64), 200-yard freestyle (1:39.75) and he 200-yard backstroke (1:45.36).

Freshmen Owen Chiles and Schrank found success in their Bearcat debuts. Chiles collected his first collegiate win in 100-yard freestyle (45.89) and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (50.03). Schrank tallied wins in her two individual events, 100-yard breaststroke (55.49) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.46).
