CINCINNATI -- Juliette Laracuente-Huebner defended her Big 12 indoor pentathlon title, breaking her own school record in the process, and Nickson Kogei completed the most improbable comeback in the home stretch of the 5,000-meter to highlight Friday action for Cincinnati at the conference indoor championships.

The men are fifth, while the women are eighth heading into Saturday's slate.

Laracuente-Huebner also broke school records in the long jump and 60m hurdles, the former something she has set three times already this season. Her 4437 score was two points off the Big 12 championship record and No. 2 in the nation for the season.

Kogei, a cross country All-American in the fall, sprinted the last straightaway to defeat his former Kenyan teammate, Oklahoma State's Denis Kipngetich, by 0.16 seconds.

The Bearcats picked up huge points in both DMRs, something they had not experimented with during the season. The men broke the school record with a 9:33.52 mark, while the women were fourth at 11:29.20.

Camden Beatty, the school-record holder in the 600-meter, did the same in the 600-yards with a 1:10.01. Macaela Walker also snagged the 60mH record at 8.28.

Freshman Miller Mabury set four PRs as part of the heptathlon: 60m, long jump, shot put and high jump.

Tierra Cullivan also claimed a UC freshman record with a 4.20m pole vault mark. John Apel's 47.41 clip in the 400-meter also ranked eigth in school history. Gwen Stare's 2:50.76 in the 1,000-meter was also second.

Prince Mcabelo, competing in only his second meet of the season and as a Bearcat, ran a 2:22.99 to rank second at the school in the 1,000-meter.

Oliver Mayer and Orry Willems each medaled in the weight throw to cap the day, including ranking second and third in program history, respectively.
