CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati head women’s basketball coach Katrina Merriweather has announced the signing of Marta Fernández.
Fernández, a 5-foot-4 point guard from Spain, completes the Bearcats’ 2026-27 roster.
“Marta has experience competing on some of the biggest stages internationally,” said Merriweather. “Helping Spain win a gold medal speaks to the impact she can have on a team. She has a great feel for the game, creates opportunities for others and can score efficiently when called upon. Marta completed our 2026-27 roster and we’re thrilled she chose to be a Bearcat! She'll join our program in August, and we're looking forward to getting her on campus and becoming part of our Sisterhood!”
She recently represented Spain at the 2025 FIBA U20 Women’s EuroBasket, helping lead her country to a championship title.
Fernández averaged 6.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 47.1% from the field and 50% from 3-point range. She recorded three double-digit scoring performances during the tournament, including a 10-point, seven-assist outing against Germany in the Round of 16.
Fernández most recently competed for Recoletas Zamora in Spain’s LF Challenge league.
Fernández joins an incoming class that features freshmen Zou Garba and Jaidyn Gunter, along with transfers Yar Tong, Naomi Benson, Sahnya Jah, Jade Jones and Amber Bullard.
