CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team had three players named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Rawlings all-Mideast team as junior second baseman Josh Harrison (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) and junior pitcher Dan Osterbrock (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) earned first-team honors while junior outfielder Cameron Satterwhite (Cincinnati, OH/Moeller) was named to the second team. The three selections tied Cincinnati with the University of Michigan for the most players taken from one school on this year's team. UC also had three players honored on last year's all-region squad (Osterbrock - first team; Harrison - second team; Tony Campana - second team).
In his three years at UC, Harrison, a 2008 first-team all-BIG EAST selection and league Co-Player of the Year, earned a place among the very best in Cincinnati history ranking among the career Top 10 in batting average (4th, .358), runs (3rd, 192), hits (4th, 246), doubles (4th, 53), RBI (5th, 153), total bases (5th, 366), and stolen bases (2nd, 63). In 59 games this season, Harrison led the team with a .378 batting average, 90 hits and 22 doubles to earn second-team all-America honors from Collegiate Baseball. Harrison's 2008 season came to an end in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship game, losing to Louisville, 6-3, but not before he earned all-tournament honors for hitting .467 with two doubles, a triple, five runs scored and three stolen bases.
Osterbrock, a 2008 second-team all-BIG EAST selection, was the ace of the Bearcats staff this season, notching a 9-2 record, a 3.55 ERA, and 74 strikeouts in 99.0 innings. He broke the school record for career wins in just three seasons, picking up his 21st career win in the opening game of the BIG EAST Championship in Clearwater, Fla., vs. West Virginia. He also ranks third in career innings (255.0) and seventh in strikeouts (194) at UC.
Harrison and Osterbrock were two of four Bearcats taken in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft two weeks ago, joining senior outfielder Tony Campana (Springboro, OH/Springboro) and junior third baseman Mike Spina (Newberry, FL/Florida CC). Harrison and Osterbrock will forego their senior years at UC and have signed with the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, respectively.
Satterwhite was one of the team's top sluggers this past spring, driving in 61 runs with a team-best 37 extra base hits, including 14 home runs and 21 doubles. His home runs and doubles finished second on the team. Satterwhite and Spina will return a combined 35 home runs and 140 RBI to the lineup for head coach Brian Cleary next season.
The Bearcats ended the 2008 season with a program-record 39 wins and made it to the BIG EAST Conference Championship game for the first time.
