Here's what's going on this week in UC sports:
- The football team will take on North Carolina State (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Raleigh, N.C. The game will be televised on ESPN. The Bearcats are 1-1 this season.
- The men's soccer team will participate in the Akron Tournament this weekend in Akron, Ohio. Their first game will be against Illinois-Chicago (0-4-0) at 5 p.m. Friday. The Bearcats will then take on the host of the tournament, No. 1 Akron (3-0-0), at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Cincinnati is 2-0-2 in regular season play.
- The No. 15 women's soccer team will take on No. 18 Louisville (5-0-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Louisville, Ky. This will be the Bearcats' first BIG EAST Conference match of the season. UC will then battle crosstown rival Xavier (3-3-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday, at Xavier. Cincinnati is 5-1-1.
- The women's volleyball team will take part in the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge this weekend in Louisville, Ky., continuing a six-match road trip. Their first match will be against No. 3 Illinois (8-1) at 4:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a match versus Purdue (8-1) at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The Bearcats are 8-3.
- The cross country team will take part in the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday in New York, N.Y.
- The tennis team will open its 2010-11 season traveling to the Bowling Green Invitational for a two-day tournament starting Friday.

- In response to the ever growing number of fans at UC home games, the Bearcats are asking fans to text BEARCATS to 90808 from within the stadium if they are having any concerns or issues regarding their entire game day experience.
If any incidents occur in the stands of Nippert Stadium, fans are asked to utilize this new feature and a response unit will be sent to your location as soon as one becomes available. Please use this new avenue for reporting if you require the assistance of police, fire, EMS, game day staff, or are witnessing a fan incident. - Don't forget to do your part in helping the Bearcat win a second consecutive Mascot National Championship. In case you missed it:
- The football team defeated Indiana State in Cincinnati's first home game of the season, 40-7 last Saturday. The Bearcats secured their first win of the year, and the first win under new head coach Butch Jones. UC is 1-1, and improved to 13-0 at home over the last three seasons, two shy of the school record for consecutive home wins.
- The men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Appalachian State last Friday at home. The Bearcats then defeated Fordham, 1-0 in another home game Sunday in the final match of the BIG EAST adidas Challenge.
- The No. 15 women's soccer team fell to Illinois in non-conference play last Saturday 3-0, giving them their first loss this season.
- The women's volleyball team went 1-2 in the Holiday Inn Classic last weekend in Charleston, S.C. In their first match, the Bearcats fell 3-1 to the College of Charleston last Friday, followed by a loss to Oregon State, 3-1, last Saturday. UC then came back on Saturday afternoon to close out the tournament with a win against Auburn, 3-1. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Niemer, who was named to the all-tournament team, had a match-high 30 kills, and accounted for 35 of UC's 76 points in the match.
- The cross country team participated in the Queen City Invitational last weekend, where the women's team took first, and the men's team finished second.
The women's team captured the team crown with four of its seven runners finishing among the top 10 in the race, including senior Michele McKenney, Lilian Jelimo, Alison Zukowski, and Jill Glassmeyer.
The men finished second in the meet for the second year in a row, trailing first-place Xavier by 17 points. Junior Eric Finan won the men's individual meet in a time of 14:46.00. Oliver Book finished three spots behind Finan, running the loop in a time of 15:19.00.
