Complete Results | All-Ohio Wrap-up
CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Bearcats women's track and field team won the All-Ohio Championships, while senior Natalie Burse and the Bearcats totaled 10 event titles at day two of the championships hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium on Saturday. The women, highlighted by Burse's three crowns, finished first with 191 points, while the men were fourth with 114.5 points.
UC had a strong showing in the 100 meter dash, due to Burse, who won the event with a sprint of 11.73. Burse was also a member of the women's 4x100 meter relay team, which won with a time of 45.57. The other members were freshman Cameron Gardner, sophomore Shanay Portis and junior Aricka Rhodes. Burse and Rhodes each contributed one more Bearcats title in the 200 meter dash (23.86) and 400 meter dash (54.99), respectively.
The Cincinnati women's 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of Portis, Ashley Arnold, junior Kathy Klump and Rhodes, also took first with a time of 3:48.67. Klump also won an individual title in the 800 meter (2:10.94) and Michelle Eby won the pole vault (4.06m) to round out the women's winners.
For the men, reigning All-Ohio Champion Eric Finan continued his success in the 1,500-meter run with a first-place time of 3:53.68 and pitched in one more title in the 5,000-meter run (14:27.03). Junior Terrence Somerville was the men's second champion of the afternoon after finishing the 110 meter hurdles in 13.90.
Also highlighting the day was newcomer Kaitlyn Good, who finished second overall in the heptathlon. Good, who is coming off a victory at the Oliver Nikoloff Open earlier this month, crossed the line first in the 800-meter run (2:17.18) to earn 4697 points in the multi-event competition. Later in the afternoon, Good took third-place in the high jump with a mark of 1.65m.
Other top finishers included juniors Paris Campbell (14.01) and Hauna Dawkins (14.23), who finished second and third, respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles. Additionally, sophomore Gabby Calderone (1:03.39) was the runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles.
In the field, freshman Jessica Molyet took second in the discus with a mark of 46.83m, while freshman Frida Akerstrom (15.01m) was third. Sophomore Jessica Cobb (14.53m) finished fourth in the shot put.
In the decathlon, Kyle Kubera (5486) and Nick Furney (4789) finished in fifth and seventh place, respectively.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team, comprised of Somerville, senior Chase VanCura, sophomore Darius Howard and freshman Alex Johnson took fourth (42.71). VanCura also competed in the 400 meter dash, claiming fourth with a time of 48.63, and finished fourth in the 200 meter (21.87).
In the men's field events, senior Troy Cooper claimed fifth in the shot put (16.13m) and junior Brian Zimmerman was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 55.68m. Senior Mike Foley finished eighth in the long jump (6.53m) and fifth in the high jump (1.95m).
The track and field teams will return to action next weekend at the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
