CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati track and field team sent individuals to compete at a pair of meets this weekend with several Bearcats opening their schedules Friday as several strong marks were recorded at both the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., and the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. Freshman Caisja Chandler led the way for the women as she won the 200m dash in Nashville with a big debut while the meet at Indiana saw another strong showing from both Aaron Bienenfeld on the track and Andre Wright in the field.

// SPEEDY DEBUT
Chandler, running her first collegiate 200m, went up against a large field of runners and won the event, beating out 102 other finishers as she ran a personal-best time of 24.08. That time, which currently leads the American Athletic Conference, also puts her into elite company at Cincinnati as she now ranks fifth all-time for the Bearcats. Her time now gives UC three women currently on the roster that rank in the all-time Top 6 at UC, including current #2 Tiona Lattimore and #6 Haisha Bisiolu, who also ran tonight in the same event to give UC three finishers in the Top 12. Bisiolu was fifth overall in 24.61 while Lattimore was 12th in 24.95

// FOR THE WIN
Chandler was not the only victorious Bearcat on the night as three wins were totaled. On the track, Angelica Lightfoot won the 60m hurdles, running 8.84 in the prelims before winning the event with a time of 8.68 in the finals. In the field, Irati Mitxelena bounced her way to the win in the triple jump with a best of 12.46m (40-10.50) to lead a 1-2 finish for UC as Kennedy Marable was second at 12.03m (39-05.75).

// BIENENFELD BACK AT IT
Bienenfeld was back on the track in a longer race after opening in the mile last week, this time running in the invitational section of the 3,000m run, where he placed third overall in 8:14.21. That time is a personal-best mark by 1.88 seconds and ranks him #2 all-time in program history. That last time anyone ran faster than Bienenfeld did tonight was in 2011 (eight years ago) when All-American Eric Finan ran 7:58.09 to set the school record.

// BOUNCING INTO ELITE COMPANY
After sitting out all last year after transferring into the program, Wright continued to improve as he posted his second-consecutive personal-best mark in the triple jump in as many weeks, this time bouncing his way to a best of 15.31m (50-02.75) to finish second overall in the meet and taking over the #2 spot on the program's all-time Top 10. Wright becomes just the third UC man to post a mark of 50' or better in the indoor triple jump after Michael Nwankwo became the second in 2014 with his now #3 mark of 15.25m (50-00.50). To top it off, Wright's mark is the longest recorded by a UC man in the event since 1972 (47 years ago) when seven-time All-American Al Lanier jumped 15.99m (52-02.50) to set the all-time standard at UC.

// GIVING THEIR BEST • WOMEN
The women posted 12 additional PRs to Chandler's run with four coming in Nashville and eight in Bloomington. On the track at Vanderbilt, freshman Faith Banks ran 25.46 to post a PR in the 200m while a trio of distance runners each ran the indoor 5,000m for the first time in their careers, placing 10th, 13th and 14th overall, respectively. Hannah Markel led the way with a time of 17:40.32 while Katrina Patterson ran 17:50.03. Ellee Bullock was the third PR runner as she posted a time of 17:55.46 in her indoor debut.

At the Gladstein meet, six marks came on the track with two more in the field. Lightfoot recorded back-to-back times of 7.90 in the prelims and finals of the 60m dash to post a PR while fellow combined events teammate Katie Straus did similarly in the 60m hurdles, running 8.88 in the prelims before improving to 8.86 in the final. The 400m provided the final two PRs with Grace Winckowski running 1:00.72 while rookie Abby Stoughton, another combined events athlete, ran 1:04.45, lowering her previous best by nearly five seconds.

Finally, in the weight throw, two women had big improvements, including Izzy Kline with a toss of 14.10m (46-03.25) and Jane Sensibaugh at 12.79m (41-11.50). Kline's mark was a 1.43m further than her collegiate debut, which equates to a PR of 4' 8.25" while Sensibaugh's mark went 0.82m further for an improvement of 2' 8.25".

// GIVING THEIR BEST • MEN
Four other marks recorded by the men went down as PRs with one coming at Vanderbilt and three at Indiana. In Nashville, Arthur Greenlee ran 22.81 to improve his PR in the 200m, the same race Chris Borzor ran 21.89 to finish fourth overall on the day and just 0.01 off his own PR. In Indiana, two distance runners turned in PRs, including Jack Cordonnier in the mile and Ryan Guenthner in the 3,000m. Cordonnier ran 4:16.76 for a nearly one second improvement while Guenthner improved by nearly seven seconds by running 8:38.64. Finally, Tim Maduka, who finished third overall in the event, posted a mark of 14.15m (46-05.25) in the triple jump, his first time trying the event in college and the first he has participated in the event in four years.
