TF Ends Charlie Thomas Invitational On High Note

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Loretta Blaut led a number of season and personal-best performances for the University of Cincinnati track and field team on the final day of competition at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University.

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Loretta Blaut led a number of season and personal-best performances for the University of Cincinnati track and field team on the final day of competition at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University. 
 
Blaut continued her torrid pace in the high jump, breaking her own meet record, tying her own school and American Athletic Conference record and tying the No. 1 jump in the nation this season by leaping 1.87m to win the event for second-straight year. Her jump ties her with BYU's Andrea Johnson-Stapleton for the top mark in the NCAA this season. 
 
// TEAM SCORES
The women's team matched its 2018 finish by taking second place with 96.5 points behind the host Aggies who earned the team title with 96.5 points. UC placed ahead of Arkansas, Texas, Stephen F. Austin, Houston, TCU, Rice, UT Arlington, South Plains and UTSA. On the men's side, the Bearcats were fifth, but only two points out of third place. Houston (126.5) took the top spot, followed by TAMU (118.5), UT Arlington (57), UTSA (57) and UC (55). Texas, South Plains, Rice, Stephen F. Austin and TCU made up the rest of the finishing order.

// BIENENFELD RUNS PR IN MEN'S MILE WIN
Aaron Bienenfeld won the mile run, setting the No. 6 time in UC history and a  personal best with his time of 4:10.12.
 
// MIKULA CHASES HISTORY
Sam Mikula became only the third UC runner to go under five minutes in the women's mile after she crossed the line with a PR of 4:59.12. Her race stands as the third-best effort in UC history. She shattered her previous best time this season of 5:08.11 by almost 10 seconds.
 
// PENN HITS PERSONAL BEST IN 800M
Rylee Penn bettered her 800m PR by a second, clocking 2:10.21 to place second in the event. She bettered her own No. 2 time on the UC top-10 list.
 
// NOTABLE (MEN'S TEAM)
  • Arthur Greenlee clocked 7.98 in the 60m hurdles prelims, setting a PR and the No. 4 time in UC history. Connor Duricky ran an 8.14 in the final, tying his PR and the No. 9 time in the Bearcats annals.
  • Chris Borzor had a pair of personal bests, running 21.65 in the 200m, the No. 6 time in UC history and 48.90 in the 400m.
  • Brandon White has a season-best effort of 6.73m in the long jump.
  • Jeremy Hayton had a personal-best leap of 2.00m in the high jump.
  • Sam Meece threw 19.34m in the 35-pound weight throw, a PR and the No. 3 mark in UC's record book.
// NOTABLE (WOMEN'S TEAM)
  • Tiona Lattimore (24.05) and Haisha Bisiolu (24.18) both finished with season-best times in the 200m.
  • Bisiolu (55.48) had a season best and Faith Banks (56.40) netted a PR in the 400m.
  • The 3,000m saw Hannah Markel (9:55.35) hit a season best and Katrina Patterson (10:14.43) set a personal best.
  • Brooke Catherine and Rachel Coghill tied for third in the pole vault with a best effort of 3.87m. Catherine had a season-best vault and Coghill set a PR and the No. 10 mark in UC history.
  • Malin Smith bettered her own PR in the shot put, tossing 15.33m, the 10th-best throw in the UC record book. 
  • Leah Heckaman tossed the 20-pound weight 16.80m, a season-best mark.

UC returns to action with a second trip to the Nashville, Tennessee, from Feb. 8-9, 2019 to take part in the Music City Challenge at Vanderbilt University.
