TAMPA - The Bearcats close out strong on the second day of competition at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

The last day of competition gets underway at 2:30 p.m. ET with the men's high jump, women's triple jump, and women's discus all going on at the same time. The men's discus is the last field event of the day and starts at 4:30 p.m. The first of many track finals events starts with the women's 4x100 meter at 4:30 p.m. ET and finishes with the men's 1,600 meter relay at 7:55 p.m. ET. The awards ceremony for the team competition will take place at 8:15 p.m.

TWO FIRST PLACE FINISHES
- Cannon Riddle ended the men's decathlon with 7,013 total points, which is not only a personal record but moves him into the #10 all-time spot in UC history. His first place finish is the third championship title in four years for the Bearcats in the decathlon.
- Austin Edwards came out strong in the men's long jump with a personal best jump of 7.67 meters to earn a championship title.
PODIUM FINISHES
- Katie Straus ended the heptathlon in second place, scoring a personal best 5,373 total points. She finished the event running a 2:19.38 in the 800 meter run, a personal best for her.
- Rachel Coghill earned second place in the pole vault, jumping 4.02 meters.
- Malin Smith secured third place in the shot put with a throw of 15.61m.
- Toni Banos and Julius Hild rounded out the Saturday events by finishing second and third in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase. The teammates finished within less than 3/10th of a second of each other, with Banos clocking in at 9:00.56 and Hild at 9:00.83.
TOP MARKS AND POINTS ADDED
- Juliet McGregor had a breakout day, breaking her personal records in all three heptathlon events. She finished second in the long jump, third in the javelin, and 13th in the 800 meter run. But it was her personal best time of 2:34.63 in the 800 meter run that secured her seventh place, earning two points for the women's team and also adding herself to the UC all-time list at #9 for the heptathlon.
- Tim Maduka finished eighth in the long jump, adding his first ever points for the men's team with a jump of 7.04m.
QUALIFIED
- In the 100 meter dash prelims, Caisja Chandler smoked the competition by earning the top seed in the finals, clocking in at 11.22. This time broke the school record and beat her personal best time of 11.30 previously set in 2019.
- Chris Borzor finished in the top spot for the 400 meter dash with a time of 46.96, tying his second fastest best time.
- Tiona Lattimore tied her personal best time of 53.93 in the 400 meter dash and earned the third seed in the finals.
- Ellie Leather adds another event to her Sunday by qualifying for the 800 meter run, finishing at 2:08.12. On the men's side, Harry Custer and Matt Hoak had breakout runs to break their own personal records and qualify for the finals. Custer, in his first career championship event, ran a 1:53.26 and crossed the finish line first in his heat to secure the second spot in the finals. Hoak ran a 1:52.74 to get him into the finals in the seventh spot.
- Victoria Abunaw was able to sneak her way into the 100 meter hurdle finals by claiming the eighth spot with her qualifying time of 13.70. On the men's side, both Isaiah McCall and Arthur Greenlee IV secured spots in the 110 meter hurdle finals by crossing the finish line at 14.26 and 14.34 respectively.
