SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshman Patrick Kiprop and junior Claire Curtsinger led the University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams at the Joe Paine Notre Dame Invitational on Friday.
The UC men's team placed 12th overall, scoring 304 points, while the women's team finished eighth overall, scoring 201 points. Nationally ranked No. 9 Notre Dame claimed the men's title, while Indiana State won the women's title.
Kiprop was the first Bearcat to cross the finish line in the men's 8k, as he placed third with a blistering time of 22:27.0. This is the Kenya native's second consecutive race finishing first for the Bearcats and within the top three finishers.
Senior Jed Helker was next to finish with a time of 23:39.2 (58th).
Following Helker were junior Seth Elking and freshman Lucas Towne. Elking clocked a time of 23:48.9 (73rd), while Towne garnered a time of 23:56.3 (83rd).
Sophomore Gianni Allwein was the fifth scorer for the men's team as he recorded a time of 24:03.3 (93rd).
On the women's side, Curtsinger finished first in the women's 6k, as she placed 8th with a time of 17:18.6.
Sophomore Jocelyn Willis was the next Bearcat to cross the finish line notching a time of 18:02.0 (34th). Junior Gwen Stare finished 11 seconds later, clinching a time of 18:13.6 for 49th place.
Rounding out the women's scorers were freshman Christina Allen and Mia Heine. Allen climbed 16 spots to take 60th place with a time of 18:22.5, while Heine recorded a time of 18:35.5 finishing 78th.

The Bearcats will head to Peoria, Ill., to run at the Bradley Pink Classic. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18.
