Curtsinger, Kiprop Lead Cincinnati at the Big 12 Championships

Freshman Patrick Kiprop and Junior Claire Curtsinger led the University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas on Friday.

WACO, Texas Freshman Patrick Kiprop and Junior Claire Curtsinger led the University of Cincinnati men's and women's cross country teams at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas on Friday.

The UC men's team placed eighth overall, scoring 234 points, while the women's team finished 11th overall, scoring 320 points. BYU claimed the men's and the women's team titles. BYU's women's team is ranked No. 1 in the country and the men are ranked No. 2.

No.1 Oklahoma State's Brian Musau (22:06.91) won the individual title in men's 8k for a second year in a row, while No. 4 West Virginia's Ceili McCabe (19:02.60) secured the women's 6k individual title.

Curtsinger crossed the finish line first for the Bearcats coming in 30th, clocking a time of 20:32.26. The California Ky., native has consistently impressed this season. She's finished first for the women in all five races, placing top 10 three times.  

Junior Gwen Stare was the next runner to finish for Cincinnati. Stare finished 71st, logging a 21:56.28 time. Sophomore Jocelyn Willis finished third, registering a time of 22:00.05 (79th).

Finishing fourth, was freshman Christina Allen. The River Edge, N.J. registered a time of 22:24.68 (93rd). Rounding out the scoring for the women was freshman Mia Heine. The Medina, Ohio native placed 108th as she secured a time of 22:50.56.

On the men's side, Kiprop, for the fourth time this season finished first for the men, as he clocked a time of 23:30.21 (34th).

Freshman Lucas Towne was the next Bearcat to finish. The Cincinnati native placed 54th, achieving a time of 24:08.06.

Junior Seth Elking and freshman Tiger Bartlett finished within three spots of each other. Elking placed 61st, with a time of 24:17.74, while Bartlett notched 64th clocking a career best time of 24:26.93.

Cincinnati's fifth finisher was graduate student Jed Helker. The Edmond, Ok. native set a time of 24:32.92 (69th).

The NCAA Great Lakes Regional will be held in Norton, Ohio on Friday, Nov. 15. Qualifiers will be announced at a later date.
