TicketsCINCINNATI - The 2017-18 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team selections were announced today by the league office with the University of Cincinnati leading the way as 286 Bearcats were selected for honors for the past academic year.
To be eligible, nominees must maintain a 3.00 grade-point average in the preceding academic year, complete a minimum of two-consecutive semesters (or three-consecutive quarters) of academic work at their institution and compete for in an AAC-sponsored sport (UC lacrosse players are not eligible this year as members of the Big East, but will be next year when the AAC begins sponsoring the sport). All nominations are submitted by each member institution and, for the 2017-18 academic year, 2,632 student-athletes were honored with those recipients hailing from the conference's 12 members, along with selections from affiliate members Navy in football and rowers from both Sacramento State and San Diego State.
The Bearcats' 286 selections led the way this year with UConn's 269 ranking second in the league. Last year, UConn's 272 selections edged out UC's 271 selections for the most of any institution. In the previous years, the Bearcats led the way as well with 273 in 2015-16 and 245 in 2014-15.
This year, football led the way for the Bearcats with 48 selections to the all-academic squad while both track & field/cross country teams added at least 30 honorees, including 36 by the women and 30 by the men. Also posting a large numbers of selections once again were women's swimming & diving (29), women's soccer (28), baseball (23) and men's swimming & diving (21).
