CINCINNATI - The final meet before the holiday break produced big marks once again for the University of Cincinnati track & field program as several Bearcats closed out 2019 with a bang on the track at the 2019 Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind., including Chris Borzor, who took down a 36 year-old school record in the 300m dash. All told, the Bearcats combined to post 14 all-time Top 10 marks in program history with the men's 60m hurdles going off for four of those marks.
// BORZOR BLAZING
Borzor raced once on the day and made the most of it as he blasted the 300m dash in 33.98. Not only did he win the event in Indiana, he also broke the school record of 34.31 that Chuck Kiser had held for 36 years after running the mark in 1986. In fact, Borzor's time makes him the first UC man to run under 34 seconds in the event.
// DECK THE HURDLES
Two Bearcats competed in the men's hurdles and also took a marker to the program's all-time Top 10 ledger while they were at it. Arthur Greenlee IV and Isaiah McCall put on a show as the both competed in the prelims and the final with each posting all-time Top 10 marks in both runs. Greenlee IV posted the fastest time in both races as he first ran a lifetime best of 7.88 in the prelims to post the #4 time in UC history before coming back in the finals and winning the event with a time of 7.79, the #3 time in program history. In fact, his time is the fastest turned in by a UC man since 2011 when All-American Terrence Somerville ran 7.63. Additionally, McCall did some editing of his own as he ran 7.95 in the prelims to crack the 8-second barrier for the first time to move up to #6 all-time before finishing third in the final with an improvement of 7.92, moving him into a tie for fifth on the all-time Top 10. With those times, coupled with Connor Duricky running 7.92 last week in Kentucky, the Bearcats now have three men on the roster with times under 8 seconds and all ranking in the Top 5 all-time in program history.
// SPRINTING ONTO THE NICE LIST
Faith Banks and Victoria Abunaw added to the Top 10 marks the sprinters brought home on the day as Abunaw recorded two and Banks added one. Abunaw, in her second meet for UC after transferring in for her sophomore season, won the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.56 to move up to #8 all-time. She added her second mark of the day in the 300m as she raced to a best of 41.31 to move into a tie for #7. In the same race, Banks finished second overall as she ran 39.12 and moved up to #5 all-time. Earlier in the day, Banks recorded personal-best times in the 60m dash twice, running 7.73 in the prelims before finishing fourth overall in 7.69, missing the all-time Top 10 by 0.05 seconds.
// FAST DISTANCE
Two women's distance runners added their names to the all-time Top 10 as well, including one newcomer in Lauren Kemper and one returner in Madalyn O'Dea. Kemper, making her debut for UC on the track, ran 10:00.64 in the 3,000m run to finish sixth in the race while recording the #7 time in program history. O'Dea ran 3:02.70 in the 1,000m run to record the #10 in program history for the second week in a row after she did so last week in Kentucky when she ran 3:03.99.
// FIELDING MORE TOP MARKS
Four other Bearcats added their marks to the all-time Top 10 list in field events with three coming from the women and one from the men. Kennedy Marable had a big day in the triple jump as she bounced her way to a best of 12.46m (40-10.50) to finish second in the meet and move up to #3 all-time at UC. In the throws, freshman Hannah Jackson launched the weight to 17.69m (58-00.50) to take second in her event and move up to #6 all-time while Jane Sensibaugh recorded a best of 14.05m (46-01.25) in the shot put to place fourth in the event and #9 in program history. For the men, Jeremy Hayton cleared 2.10m (6-10.75) to take second in the meet and tie for the #9 position all-time at UC.
// UP NEXT
The Bearcats will now have several weeks off for the holiday break before returning to action January 10-11 at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
