The Cincinnati cross country team dominated the top-10s of the men's and women's races to start the season on a great note.
“I'm really pleased with both of the group’s efforts today," coach Lucas Rothenberger said. "I think we got exactly what we needed out of a competition on August 29th."
Nickson Kogei and Ann Lemirisho, both freshmen from Kenya, had the top marks in the women's heats, though Lucas Towne was second in the field and the top finisher under Cincinnati's team representation.
"The men looked good. It was a good pack running, and there was a lot of energy throughout the race within the pack. Nickson ran unattached today and he looked good; he will continue to get better throughout the year as the training and racing picks up.
"The women looked good, as well. Claire and Ann will be a good duo up front, and I think we have the pieces to build a good team all the way through seven runners. The entire women’s group looks significantly better than last fall, so that’s exciting.”
Lemirisho was one of five freshmen on the women's side. Claire Curtsinger, Christina Allen and Maddie Strong all finished in the top-10 while collecting personal-best times.
