In case you missed it:
- The football team fell short to No. 8 Oklahoma last Saturday, 31-29. This is the Bearcats' second straight loss this season, giving them a record of 1-3. UC has this upcoming weekend off, before coming home to face Miami (OH) for a Blackout game at Nippert Stadium to close out non-conference play on Saturday, October 9th.
- The men's golf team finished 15th at the season-opening Cardinal Intercollegiate last Tuesday at Louisville's Cardinal Club. UC shot rounds of 305-300-297=902 to finish 12 shots ahead of Morehead State (298-302-314=914) for 15th place.
- Bambee Dela Paz fired rounds of 75-71-71-217 to win the season-opening UC Fall Classic at Elks Run Golf Club last Tuesday. This is the third tournament win of her career, and first since her freshman season. The Bearcats finished third as a team with rounds of 308-305-300=913. Florida International won the team title, carding rounds of 307-295-287=889 to top Toledo (304-299-297=900) by 11 strokes.
- The men's soccer team posted its fourth shutout in seven matches this season and lowered the team goals-against average to 0.40, with a 2-0 win against Georgetown in their conference opener last Saturday at Gettler Stadium.
- The women's soccer team fell to No. 5/9 Notre Dame, 4-0, in their second conference game of the 2010 season last Friday in South Bend, Ind. The Bearcats then came home and fell, 2-1, in overtime against visiting DePaul last Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
- Former University of Cincinnati swimmer Josh Schneider was reinstated to the U.S. National Team this week after a controversial disqualification at the U.S. National Championships in August. He originally earned his spot on the U.S. squad after tying for second in the 50-meter freestyle at the U.S. Championships. Schneider was disqualified from the 50-freestyle, the event he won at the 2010 NCAA Championship, after failing to scratch from the 100 butterfly, an event he was not aware he was entered in. Not withdrawing is a violation of USA Swimming rules and resulted in a series of appeals, keeping Schneider off the Pan Pacific Championships team. He swam 21.97 in the final of the 50 freestyle at that meet, tying for second with Cullen Jones, finishing behind Nathan Adrian who won the race in 21.70. Adrian's time was the second fastest in the world this year while Schneider and Jones are tied for the fifth-best effort in the world this year. Schneider and Jones will compete in a swim-off at the 2011 Charlotte UltraSwim to see who will compete at the 2011 FINA World Championships.
- Sophomore Elise Woulfe was the big winner for UC Tennis as she captured the Flight 4 title over the weekend at the Indiana Invitational. Freshman Sabrina Jetli completed in the same flight, capturing third place.
- The 25th-ranked volleyball team swept Morehead State, 3-0 last Tuesday in Morehead, Ky. The Bearcats went on to sweep Seton Hall, 3-0, last Friday in their conference opener at Fifth Third Arena, followed by a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers last Sunday. This marks Cincinnati's sixth consecutive win, and improves their record to 13-3 (2-0 BIG EAST).
