Here's a look at what's coming up this week in UC sports:
- The football team will come back from a weekend off to host the Black Out game against Miami (OH) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Nippert Stadium. This will end non-conference play for Cincinnati this season. The game will be televised on ESPN3 and on the radio on 700 WLW. The Bearcats are 1-3 this season.
- The men's golf team will participate in the Cleveland State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Cleveland, Ohio.
- The men's soccer team will take on Michigan at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Bearcats will then face St. Johns at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Queens, N.Y. The Bearcats are 4-2-3, 2-0-0 BIG EAST.
- The women's soccer team will continue a four-match home stretch taking on Georgetown at 7 p.m. Friday at Gettler Stadium. UC will then play Villanova at 1 p.m. Sunday before getting back on the road. The Bearcats are 7-5-1 overall and 1-4 in BIG EAST play.
- The No. 22 women's volleyball team will match up against DePaul at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fifth Third Arena. The Bearcats, tied for first in the BIG EAST at 4-0, will then host co-conference front runners Notre Dame at 5 p.m. Sunday in a match to be televised on ESPNU. Cincinnati has won its last eight matches straight, giving them a record of 15-3 overall.

Bearcats and the Community:
- UC is set to host the Inaugural Basketball 101 on October 6 from 6-9 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena. This event provides the women of Cincinnati an opportunity to increase their basketball knowledge, mingle with UC coaches and players, and proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. - The men's and women's basketball teams will officially launch the 2010-11 season on Tuesday, Oct. 12 with a UC Basketball Pep Rally on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. A full slate of activities including autographs, raffles and comments from head coaches Mick Cronin and Jamelle Elliott are planned.
- UC's Homecoming is set this year for Saturday, Oct. 30. The exact time and schedule for game-day festivities will depend on the determination of kickoff time for the Syracuse-UC football game at Nippert Stadium. That decision has yet to be finalized by the BIG EAST Conference and its broadcast partners but game time will be announced on Monday, Oct. 18. - The University of Cincinnati, its Department of Athletics and the UC Alumni Association will hold a UC Basketball Tip-off Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in at the Great Hall of the Tangeman University Center. The Tip-off luncheon will begin a two-year celebration of the 50th Anniversaries of the school's 1960-61 and 1961-62 NCAA National Championships. Tickets for the Tip-off Luncheon are $30 per person or $200 for a table of eight in advance.
- Keep voting for the Bearcat in the Mascot National Championship. Visit www.capitalonebowl.com daily to vote.
In case you missed it:
- The men's and women's cross country squads both placed fifth at the 56th Annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course at Cedarville University last Friday. Thirty-nine schools competed in the women's race while 35 took part in the men's. Junior Eric Finan was the star of the day for the men's team, grabbing runner-up honors with a time of 24:20.6. The women's team got a ninth place finish from senior Michele McKenney, stopping the clock in 17:53.0.
- Sophomore Zack Bates placed ninth to lead the men's golf team to a 12th-place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic last Tuesday at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. The Bearcats posted a team total of 303-302-289=894, four shots better than Gonzaga to place 12th.
- Senior Bambee Dela Paz was the top finisher for the women's golf team at the William K. Warren Irish Invitational. Dela Paz shot rounds of 74-74-78=230 to finish tied for 13th overall. UC finished 13th in the team standings.
- The men's soccer team played crosstown rival Xavier to a 0-0 draw in double overtime last Wednesday at the XU Soccer Complex. UC is unbeaten in its last six matches against the Musketeers. The Bearcats improved to 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2007 and recorded their sixth shutout through nine matches this season after defeating Rutgers 2-0 at home last Saturday.
- The women's soccer team came up short in BIG EAST Conference play against West Virginia last Friday, 4-0. The Bearcats came back to defeat Pittsburgh, 2-1 for their first BIG EAST victory this season last Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
- The No. 22 volleyball team picked up its seventh straight win last Friday with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-14 victory over St. John's. The Bearcats continued the winning streak in another BIG EAST Conference match with a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) against Connecticut on Sunday, giving Cincinnati its eighth straight win this season.
